To remain independent of her father, who’s a stolen-goods trafficker, a newly widowed single mom joins her late husband’s gang of smash-and-grab thieves. The film had some freaky visuals, a few old-fashioned frights and decent enough acting and an appropriate atmosphere to fit the mold. I think the title should just be Ghosts of Georgia because the film has no relation to the first movie and it’s not even based in Connecticut, it seems obvious that was a cash grab decision.
This new story is purposively based on actual events about the Wyrick family and even has a made for TV. The back-story on why this paranormal disturbance is happening was dealt with in a non hard-hitting way and wasn’t effective. The performances were decent but not great.
Abigail Spenser plays Lisa Wyrick, a mother and wife who is struggling with a passed down gift of seeing and speaking with the dead, her sister and daughter also seem to have this suppose gift. Abigail was the highlight of this lackluster horror film and carries most of the weight and but the script limited her performance.
Chad Michael Murray plays the father Andy Wyrick and gives a pretty bland performance and doesn’t have much of a part. Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica fame plays the sister of Lisa, Joyce Wyrick, who also has the gift of seeing the dead.
Katee gives a lively performance but like Chad’s character there wasn’t much to her role even though she has one of the more memorable moments in the film, which involve needle threads coming out of her mouth. Emily Alyn Lind plays Heidi Wyrick the young daughter of Lisa Wyrick, who starts to show signs of contacting the dead. She surprisingly holds her own as she plays one of the key roles in the film.
All in all the performances were OK but their script lacked depth and charisma. Director, Tom Elkins who is also the editor of this film and the first one, as well as the editor of a couple of other horror films, most notably the superior sequel to White Noise, White Noise 2: The Light.
Tom seems like a gifted editor, but as a first time Director he has some learning to do as this horror film looks like it should be on ABC family. The just wasn’t a solid direction to this film; its subject matter should have been more powerful.
Writer David Coggeshall has only written for television shows before like the short lived Watch Over Me series. The elements of a good ghost story is there because of the true story aspect of the film, but David Coggeshall didn’t put it into good use and created something uninspired and vague. Overall, forget about the beginning of the movie’s title and just go with Ghosts of Georgia because it’s not a sequel to The Haunting in Connecticut, it’s a completely different story.
It was neat at the end credits to see a picture of the actual family on which this film is based on. Their true story is probably far more interesting and terrifying than the actual film being presented.
The film had tiny moments of creepiness and intrigue with grotesque imagery but the pacing was slow, it was scare free for the most part, didn’t take advantage of the back-story and was mostly an unoriginal affair.
An unnecessary and pointless sequel that isn’t really a sequel. FAQ 1. Is this an actual sequel? Details Edit. Release date February 1, Canada. United States. The Haunting in Georgia. Gold Circle Films. Gordy told her she let something bad out.
When Andy takes his daughter’s side, it causes a rift between him and Lisa. Lisa tells Heidi that the stationmaster was a good man, to which Heidi replies, “No, he wasn’t”. Andy decides that the family will leave because he doesn’t want Lisa filling Heidi’s head with the idea that she is sick and needs to be on medication. As they are packing up to leave, the ghost of the stationmaster can be seen watching them. Joyce decides to stay and the ghosts of the slaves alert her to the stationmaster’s presence.
She sees him walking towards Heidi and when she attempts to warn her niece, the stationmaster turns his attention on her. Joyce coughs up a needle and begins to become sutured from the inside.
Meanwhile, Lisa notices that Heidi has disappeared from the truck and she decides to check Joyce’s trailer. She finds her sister strung from the ceiling and cuts the sutures just before the stationmaster is able to get them. When Lisa asks her sister where Heidi is, Joyce replies that “they know”, which leads Lisa to accept her visions.
She follows the guidance of the conductor’s ghost, which leads her to the station. There, she finds a hidden door and discovers many animals that had been stuffed by the stationmaster.
It is revealed that the stationmaster had kept many slaves and stuffed them for his own keeping, including Nell, Levi, and the conductor. She finds Heidi tied to the stationmaster’s table, and when she attempts to escape with her daughter, she finds the way blocked, except by going straight up through the ground. Heidi begins to climb and then is pulled up through the ground. When Lisa attempts to follow her, she is pulled back down by the stationmaster.
She is confronted by the ghost, but experiences a vision of her mother who tells her to “let them in”. She finally embraces her visions and finds out that the stationmaster had told Nell, Levi, and the conductor that he would be back for them, but traps them instead, leaving them to starve so that he could stuff them.
Learning the truth, it allows their spirits to be freed and have their vengeance on the stationmaster. The stationmaster’s death is revisited, but instead of it being the townspeople who murder him, it is the spirits of all those he had killed. This allows Lisa to escape and the stationmaster’s spirit to be destroyed. It is then revealed that the person who had pulled Heidi through the ground was actually the spirit of Mr.
Gordy, who was the stationmaster’s descendant and was acting as a protector of the Wyrick family. Two weeks later, Andy attempts to hang a tire swing for Heidi. Lisa and Joyce speculate about why Mr. Gordy hadn’t wanted people on his land and come to the conclusion that he wanted his ancestor to be remembered for the good that he did and not the bad. Meanwhile, Heidi is struggling to ride her bike when it suddenly straightens up.
She turns around to see Mr. Gordy and he sends her off to ride happily where she sees the spirits of Nell, Levi, and the Conductor heading off into the woods, finally free. She turns around and sees Mr.
Gordy waving goodbye to her before he turns and walks away into the afterlife, satisfied that the Wyricks are safe. In a text epilogue, it is revealed that the Wyricks remained in that house for another five years, Lisa’s visions have not returned, and that Heidi never saw Mr.
Gordy again. The final shot shows photos of the real-life Heidi and Mr. Gordy, and then the entire Wyrick family.

Some are thoroughly chilling providing goose bumps while others are weak providing laughs. Their inconsistent inclusion makes the film uneven at best. When they work, however, they are as frightening as many of the recent Hollywood theatrical releases. Regrettably, the erratic display of hauntings is frustrating. Some ghosts are little more than the ghosts seen on cheap knockoff haunting documentary TV shows and others are derivative and stereotypical.
The final act provides the best examples A Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia has to offer. Gordy something of a character arc providing his character a rewarding exit. In the end, director Tom Elkins has created an effective and creepy little film regardless of its unfortunate title. A Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia is ultimately forgettable but it is entertaining and sports a strong, competent cast with Katee Sachkoff and Emily Alyn Lind as stand out additions.
The film is far better than the title and the marketing suggests and is better than many films that make it to the theaters these days. If the ideas in the script were allowed to mature a bit more, the Station Master spirit for example, and the film was allowed to have its own identity, it would have had a shot at a successful theatrical run.
As it is, A Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia is an above average ghost tale that should not be blindly tossed aside; it deserves consideration.
