Alabama football score vs. Texas A&M Aggies: Live updates on Bryce Young injury, Crimson Tide. | GDPR Compliance
Q3: No. 1 Alabama 24, Texas A&M Texas A&M cashed Alabama’s fourth turnover in for a field goal, but it could have been much more. FINAL: Alabama 24, Texas A&M Haynes King’s back-shoulder throw to Evan Stewart isn’t close to being complete. Poor decision/play call for. The top-ranked — for now — Crimson Tide survived a near-disastrous performance against the Aggies. They overcame four turnovers and two missed.
Alabama vs. Texas score, Week 2 highlights: Tide edge Longhorns by 1 – College Football HQ – Is injured Alabama quarterback Bryce Young healthy enough to play?
Great playcall, with Ja’Corey Brooks getting free on a crosser in a tight formation. Jermaine Burton’s unsportsmanlike conduct penalty made the field goal longer, and Burton is frankly lucky to still be in the game. Looked like he was trying to land a punch. This isn’t a Warriors practice, Jermaine. Aggies ball near midfield. Second time he’s done that in the first half.
Running the slant usually works out pretty well for Alabama. He finds an open Cameron Latu for a yard touchdown up the left seam. And it comes on a pair of Jalen Milroe scrambles. First one was for 14 yards, the other for Alabama’s offense moves into the red zone. That’ll signal another punt. Jalen Milroe started the game at QB and has not made an impact through the air.
If he can’t go, it’s the Jalen Milroe show again. Young is dressed, though. Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher shared a pre-game handshake prior to kickoff. Xavier Worthy X. Jordan Whittington J. Emmanuel Henderson Jr. Henderson Jr. Deontae Lawson D. DJ Dale D. Jaheim Oatis J. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs has seven catches today Drops have been a real problem, too. Give Texas credit, though.
When Young has looked downfield, nothing has been open. And the Longhorns are winning at the line of scrimmage and getting home to Young. The Longhorns continue to shock the world in Austin. After forcing a punt and nearly a safety on the previous drive, Texas converted a field goal in the third quarter thanks to a short field. Quarterback Hudson Card hasn’t been quite as dynamic as the injured Ewers, but he has completed a few passes — and been helped by numerous Alabama penalties — to keep drives alive.
We’re heading to a photo finish in Austin. Kick is good! Three first-half offsides penalties, and now the late hit to keep Texas’ drive going. It seems like he’s pressing too much. Clearly, Texas is going to game plan around him, but there have been too many mental errors for a player of his caliber.
With all the NFL scouts in attendance, this is not the type of game tape he wants to put out there. What just happened in Austin? The Longhorns appeared to have a safety to take the lead in Austin, but suddenly DeMarvion Overshown was called for a bad roughing the passer with targeting. Typically refs can’t review roughing the passer The call likely ended up correct, but it took five layers of hell to get there.
Texas backup quarterback Hudson Card is limping after taking a few hard hits against Alabama’s physical defense, and third-string quarterback Charles Wright is warming up on the sideline. The Longhorns went into a Wildcat look with Card lined up at wide receiver to close out the drive, which ended with a punt one play later.
Wright has never thrown a pass at Texas. Alabama vs. Texas score, takeaways: No. By Shehan Jeyarajah. Let’s break down the takeaways from Saturday’s Week 2 thriller in Austin.
Missed opportunities for Texas The Longhorns were the better team in this game, but a few missed plays and decisions ultimately swung the outcome. Longhorns defense is legit Alabama was fully healthy and ran out the same unit that dropped 55 points on Utah State a week ago. SAT P. TEXAS Season Leaders passing.
Live updates See New Posts. It was the kind of performance that will raise the antennas of voters who haven’t paid much attention to Gibbs this season. This game was one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the year. For Gibbs to have that kind of performance considering the Tide’s offensive limitations is exactly what a running back needs to earn consideration. Every team — even a national title contender like Alabama — is allowed one mulligan.
That was what a Week 2 win over Texas was for the Tide. Saturday’s game was the golf version of a shank to the right that hit a tree, bounced off the cart path and somehow landed on the green.
Bama walked away with a win, but make no mistake, it’s headed into the danger zone. What’s more problematic is that it could be doing it with Milroe, who didn’t exactly inspire confidence. The Volunteers scored on their first four possessions in Death Valley, just one game after going an entire 60 minutes without punting vs. After all, the Aggies don’t exactly have one of the most potent offenses in the country. Tennessee does, and it plays so fast that it can turn a game sideways in a matter of minutes.
Unless something miraculous happens between now and Saturday afternoon in Knoxville, Tennessee, that appears to be the case. King was named the Aggies starting quarterback in fall camp in each of the last two years, but his career hasn’t exactly gone as planned.
Against Alabama, King played well enough behind a porous offensive line. He was noticeably limping on the final drive of the game but still managed to go 5 of 9 excluding a spike for 46 yards without having a timeout in his back pocket. That’s the kind of performance that would make Jonathan Moxon of “Varsity Blues” smile.
His performance didn’t have the same Hollywood ending, but he deserves a ton of credit for leaving it all on the field on the biggest stage of his career.
