Pennsylvania senate race polls.Pennsylvania Senate race tightens, Oz eats into Fetterman’s lead, poll shows
Democrats are leading in two significant Pennsylvania races with less than six weeks to go before Election Day, but one of the races has tightened in recent weeks. Senate candidate John Fetterman and gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro hold leads over their Republican opponents, even as Pennsylvania voters remain unhappy with the direction of the state and country. While Shapiro has kept a healthy gap between himself and his opponent, state Sen.
Doug Mastriano, Fetterman has seen his lead dwindle. When including undecided voters who are leaning toward a candidate, the lieutenant governor is only outpacing his opponent, Dr.
Mehmet Oz, by just 3 points. Concerns about the economy, including unemployment, personal finances and gas prices, remain the most important problems facing voters. The poll shows the race for the open Senate seat is getting tighter as Election Day draws closer. Fetterman, the current lieutenant governor, holds a narrow advantage over Oz, a heart surgeon-turned television personality. The race is significantly closer than it was last month when the survey found that Fetterman held a point lead.
Yost said the tightening of the race can be attributed to Oz improving his standing among Republicans since the August survey.
However, he pointed out that the poll finds Fetterman and Oz are now viewed more unfavorably than favorably by the voters. The poll also takes a look at the race when only likely voters are counted. The survey findings presented in this release are based on the results of interviews conducted Sept. The poll was designed and administered by the staff of the Center for Opinion Research.
The data included in this release represent the responses of registered Pennsylvania voters, including Democrats, Republicans and 72 independents. The sample of registered voters was obtained from Marketing Systems Group. All sampled respondents were notified by mail about the survey. Survey results were weighted age, gender, education, geography and party registration using an algorithm to reflect the known distribution of those characteristics among state voters.
