Texas was truly all gas, no brakes today. Maybe for the first time in the Steve Sarkisian era, the Longhorns completely buried an opponent, and did so on a big stage in the Red River Showdown. Texas struck first, then again, and again, and again, and next thing you know, the Horns were in complete command at the half, owning a lead.
But, of course, the collapse last season lingered in your mind a bit, but only for a short bit. Texas added another 14 points to their lead in the third quarter before deploying the backups, which continued to produce, scoring again in the fourth to put Texas on top, The result? Not only was it the Longhorns’ biggest victory in the series, it was the first shut out either way since and the most dominant win by either side since The Texas victory marked a breakout moment for quarterback Quinn Ewers, who completed 21 of 31 passes for yards and four touchdowns in a total evisceration of Oklahoma’s secondary.
Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson added yards rushing and two touchdowns. Beville completed just 6 of 12 passes for 38 yards and an interception in a miserable effort. This victory for Texas over Oklahoma marked its biggest in the history of the rivalry, overtaking a win in The difference? The Longhorns finished undefeated that season and won the national championship.
